5 Reasons You Should Try Going Sober

Even if it’s just for a month…

One: You’ll save a ton of money

Just look back at your bank statements and see how much you’ve spent on alcohol or purchases you made while being drunk (late night food, buying other people’s drinks, etc.)

Extra cash each month from not drinking can be used to save, invest, and more.

Two: You’ll lose weight

Even if you’re drinking Truly’s, you most likely aren’t staying very active while drinking or you might be eating unhealthy food once you get a few drinks in you.

Cutting down on drinking can help you cut the unnecessary calories easily.

Based on what other’s and I have experience, once you realize how great you can feel, you’ll continue to focus on healthier choices like going to the gym and cooking your own meals.

It just takes a few healthy days to want more.

Three: You’ll realize where your friendships stand

A lot of my friendships during my drinking days relied heavily on drinking. Once I went sober, certain people in my life just stopped coming around as much. It wasn’t deliberate, but without the drinking there wasn’t much more for us to do together so we just didn’t hang out.

Thinking of it that way, I’m not even sure if those are the type of friendships I want. It was great to better understand the people that were really there for me.

Four: You’ll have a ton of free time

Not only did I free up hours over the weekend by eliminating the time I was actively drinking, I also freed up even more time eliminating the time it took for me to recover and get over my hangover.

It’s unreal how much time you have if you aren’t spending Saturday and Sunday mornings hungover and dreading the day.

Five: You’ll love yourself

This one is not as quantifiable as the first four reasons above, but it’s easily the most impactful.

If you’re reading this article, there’s some voice in the back of your mind that has you curious what life could be like without alcohol and the chaos it might be causing for you.

When I first began my sober journey, most of the driving force behind the change had to do with the first four reasons. This reason keeps me going and has kept me going 840+ days now.

The relationship we have with ourselves is the one relationship we have to be with 24/7/365. If you’re wanting that relationship to be improved in any way, try going sober for 30 days and keep an open mind. I think you’ll be incredibly surprised with what you find!
