The Third Agreement: Don’t make assumptions
- Never expect someone to know what you need or know how you feel.
- The same goes for others. Don’t expect to know how someone feels or what they want.
- Clear communication is incredible important to break down assumptions and learn the truth.
- This is not only something reactive (they said this, so I want to react to it to break down the assumption), but also proactive. State your intent, defuse assumptions ahead of time in conversation.
The Fourth Agreement: Do your best
- It’s not about doing THE best. It’s about doing YOUR best.
- No one on this Earth is perfect. We are all imperfect beings with major flaws. Don’t expect to read a book, hear a new lesson, or have a desire to change and then the next morning wake up and do so.
- Things take time. We will mess up.
- But standing up, waking up, and getting back up and trying again is the warrior spirit we need to be able to break small beliefs and agreements we’ve made with ourselves to become better people.
- The best intentions mean nothing without ACTION. You can’t break down barriers within yourself and with others if you don’t put into action what you are learning. This is the most difficult part to do as reading and reflecting internally just about you and how you feel. There are no other thoughts, views, assumptions, or reactions outside of your mind.
