Yesterday, I was talking to someone who has been sober for one year.
He was reflecting on his time sober and how his life was different compared to a year ago.
What he said stuck with me,
“My life is different now because now I’m able to treat myself differently, so I can treat others differently.
I couldn’t be honest with myself, so I was never honest with other.
I couldn’t love myself, so I couldn’t truly love anyone else.
No longer does alcohol call the shots, I call the shots.”
