My birthday gift

Today I’m 29 years old.

The last 29 years of my life have been nothing short of exciting, demoralizing, enthralling, boring, and everything in between. Which to me means I’m living a pretty damn good life.

Reflecting on where I’m at in my life, I’ve realized a key ingredient to a live I love: being your true self.

Now, some might look at this as a ‘well no shit dude’ moment, but being your true self is the greatest way to spend one’s life.

So, how do I live my true self?

For me, it’s about doing things for the innate act of doing them, not because they’re a means to an end.

For instance, working out and writing for me are the two things that I love to do simply because doing them is enjoyable. It’s not because I’m making money off of them, or winning events and medals. Shoot, I don’t even know if I would want to make money off my writing or start signing up for events working out, because in my mind they would lose their luster and my passion would turn into duty.

In a world of distractions and pressure to use every minute of your day to become more ‘productive’ and ‘successful’ and ‘[fill in influencer trying to sell you ebook buzzword here]’, the best things in life aren’t completed through desire, but out of curiosity and love.

I became great at sales not because I desired to make more money, but I became insanely curious learning how to move people, influence, and about money.

In that process, I became great at sales and made more money. A little backwards and one might think ‘same thing dude,’ but they are different, trust me.

So long story short here, I’m going to spend my 29th year on this Earth focusing on being my true self.

Doing the things that inherently bring me peace and joy, not chasing some arbitrary success metric that is more satisfying to tell others about than believe in myself.

Cheers to you all for reading this, let’s have a great year!
