One of my favorite books is the Alchemist. I reread it every year.
The central message of the book (to me) is while life draws you to venture from home while your young, home is what you’ve been looking for all along. (Trying not to spoil to much for anyone who hasn’t read it themselves!)
This resonates especially with me now.
I ventured out wanting financial success, career success, independence, and so much more.
I sacrificed and strived to obtain the success, accomplishments, acknowledgement, and credibility in my life.
As a child, that’s what I thought would bring me peace, joy and happiness.
But as I’ve obtained more and more of those goals, the things I now miss more than ever, are the things I had already:
- More time with my parents
- Laughs with my siblings
- A family meal
- A day with childhood friends
Now, this is paradoxical in a way as we must leave home to understand the true value of it.
But the true beauty is that I have plenty of time to be grateful & take advantage of this realization.
